I started by designing the front cover, which was crucial in achieving this goal. I researched Marcus Aurelius and Stoicism to determine the best design elements and colours to use for the cover. The final product was a stunning cover featuring Marcus Aurelius with a Roman wreath, symbolizing his military victories and persona. I used a serif font for the title to connect it to the Roman time period and the colour blue to represent Marcus Aurelius’ calm teachings. I finished it off by adding a textured background and adding texture to Aurelius’s image to suggest the book is old and that his philosophy has survived through time to teach future generations.
For the inside of the book, I kept it simple by using speech marks that looked like chat bubbles to showcase his quotes, in keeping with Aurelius’s philosophy of simplicity.
I am pleased with the final outcome of the book. During the process, I gained valuable knowledge in researching various topics to create a beautiful and thoughtful design.
